It’s actually late afternoon the next day by the time I make it out of the tunnels, the earth rumbling around me the entire time. It’s somewhat of a relief to see daylight again.
I hurry back to Greentop Nursery before sunset and get paid 97 caps for my troubles. Scrolling through my Pip Boy, I see they’ve added some settlement management functionality in one of the new updates. The Map tab now offers the ability to show your supply lines, and in the Data tab there is now a Workshops section that gives alerts if your settlements aren’t doing well. Several of my settlements have problems, including Sanctuary Hills, so I feel obligated to go check up on them. I need to sell some things anyway.

It’s the middle of the night by the time I arrive in Sanctuary. My festive town square is empty. But thanks to the best glitch in the history of gaming, Trashcan Carla is still trapped, standing in the middle of the street. Somehow she keeps getting fresh stock and caps though. I make a fairly even trade of my new loot for some ammo and a fusion core. Not making much profit, but I’m paying the bills.
In the early morning hours, I pay a visit to Mama Murphy, as it’s been awhile. This time, she’s asking for some Med X. Always flush with chems, and not wanting to deny an old woman what she wants in this horrible world, I hand it over. I suppose I’m supposed to take the notification of Preston and Codsworth’s disapproval as a sign that this is morally questionable, but I don’t care. Perhaps if they were to make some kind of argument to me in dialogue I would find it compelling, but small text on a screen indicating disapproval does little for moral engagement.
Mama Murphy’s sight kicks in. This vision she sees me hunting someone, someone more than human. Then she sees a man in a white coat standing over my prey. He says “Z247 Initialize Factory Reset Authorization Code Zeta 35 Kilo” then he falls. Not sure where this is going, but at the end of it she says she feels like she can’t breathe for a moment. I do worry a bit for her, and maybe this is a sign that she should slow down. But who am I to tell her so?
I head out and plant some razor grain around the back of the house to take care of the food shortage here. Trying to find someone to harvest the food, I notice some other updates to settlement management. As I had previously suggested, I can now see what a settler is assigned to when I hover over them in workshop mode. This doesn’t make it any easier to physically go find an unassigned settler, however. Menu settlement management would be much better. I ultimately reassign Sturges from guard duty to food harvesting, trusting in my turrets. But soon I realize that with the updates I can finally assign companions not currently traveling with me, so I put Codsworth on guard duty.
That business done, I lay down for a couple of hours sleep.
