As I was sitting at 3 perk points, the first action of the day is upgrading to Rifleman 3, as I do use my sniper rifle quite a bit. Then I head off to Goodneighbor. Time to explore the main area of Boston for awhile.
I put on my best business suit and pop in for a talk with Daisy before seeing about trading some things. We have a brief conversation about the world before the war, which pulls me a bit back into thinking about the plot thus far. I get a fusion core, some energy cells, and over 100 caps out of the loot, then I prepare to look around town before heading out into Boston. I believe there are a couple of quests in town.
I never did have a good talk with Hancock, so I head into the Old State House. We discuss his backstory a bit, and I find that he’s not an ancient ghoul like I thought he was. He was apparently very fond of chems (something for our characters to bond over) and tried an experimental radiation chem that turned him into a ghoul only a decade ago. After we discuss the Institute and his philosophy on governing (let anyone in as long as they play nice), Hancock tells me he has a reconnaissance job for me. He wants me to scout out the Pickman Gallery in raider territory because things up there have gone too silent. I talk him up from the normal pay of 200 to 300 and decide not to push my luck past that.
I explore the building a bit more, at it seems Hancock lets drifters just sleep around his headquarters for free. Certainly, he strikes me as someone dangerous and a bit shady, but his treatment of the down and out tells me he isn’t all bad. These background NPCs may not have any function in the game, but they go a long way towards telling the story of Hancock and perhaps engaging my empathy with him without explicit saying anything. His lieutenant/bodyguard Fahrenheit is a bit less friendly, calling me another pawn. As I leave, she remarks, “Sometimes players have to sacrifice a pawn to win the game. Remember that…”
I have a mission that says simply “Talk to Bobbi,” which points me down a dirty back alley. It’s been so long, though, that I don’t know who Bobbi is or why I want to talk to her/him. Because it’s a miscellaneous mission, there are no further details.

I talk to Bobbi through the door and she says she’s offering work. It will require manual labor, but the pay is good. As I have high charisma and the Lady Killer perk, I push her for more details. She says only that she needs discretion and could get into a lot of trouble if the wrong someone finds out. I then push her up from her original offer three times to 200 caps upfront, and she invites me inside. At this point, I am wondering if she is running something behind Hancock’s back. Finding out what and turning her in might put in the good graces of the authority here. On the other hand, if she can convince me her cause is worthwhile, I might continue to help. Preston isn’t a fan. Once I get inside at the bottom of the stairs she’ll only tell me we’re going to be digging for something, something that isn’t technically ours yet. I have begun the quest: The Big Dig.
In the tunnel, I get suited up in my work/exploration attire and head down. I arrive as two workers are blowing open the wall. They investigate and the come back running, yelling “Mirelurks” and saying “Bobbi can take this job and shove it!” I step into the newly opened tunnel with Preston and we take care of things without any difficulty.
Bobbi promotes me to her new gun and says we just need one more person in on the job. I’m to meet her in Diamond City by the noodle shop. I’m going to see how this plays out, for now. I explore on my way out, and find Bobbi’s Terminal at the top of the stairs hidden in a bathroom. There appears to be some sort of glitch though, and it won’t let me interact with the terminal at all. It’s a shame, because an advanced terminal would be a piece of cake. I put my formal wear back on and head out into Goodneighbor again.
It’s after midnight, and raining, so I head over to the Hotel Rexford to turn in for the night.
